A lot of older systems around Cambridge were fitted in the 2000s on R410A or earlier refrigerants. If a repair would cost a large share of a new, more efficient system, we will say so.

Faults we see most

• Blowing but not cooling: dirty coils, low refrigerant from a leak, a failed fan motor or a faulty sensor.
• Water from the indoor unit: a blocked or kinked drain, a failed pump or a unit that has dropped out of level.
• Error codes: give us the code and model and we can usually narrow it down by phone.
• New noises: loose covers, a worn fan bearing, failed anti-vibration mounts or a compressor under strain.
• Ice on pipes: restricted airflow or a refrigerant shortage.
• Smells: mould on the coil or standing water in the tray.
• Controls not responding: remotes, wired controllers, Wi-Fi modules and circuit boards.

3. The engineer diagnoses the fault and talks you through options and costs before any work.
4. Common parts are on the van; anything else is ordered and fitted on a follow-up visit.

When replacing makes more sense

R22 systems cannot legally be topped up with new refrigerant, and many units over fifteen years old use far more electricity than a modern inverter model. If a repair is poor value, we will show you the numbers.
